What are Hard Water Spots or Limescale?
Hard water spots or stains, also known as limescale buildup, are caused by minerals in the water that remain on the glass after the water has evaporated. It’s usually calcium carbonate, but other minerals may be present in the water. Over time, if not removed, the minerals and hard water spots can build up and require extreme measures to restore the glass.
Types of Glass Common to Water Staining
- Hard water spots are most prevalent on shower glass.
- Limescale is commonly found on first floor windows near sprinklers, especially in hot and tropical climates such as Florida.
How to Remove Hard Water Stains
Hard water can stain and etch glass, and can vary depending on how heavy and how long the buildup has been accumulating. If etching has occurred, then resurfacing is the best route to restore the glass.
